MYC Teachers

CARRIE BAILEY – B.A. of M., B.A. W.M., MYCC
I have been teaching Music for Young Bailey Family 2023_170Children since 2002 and enjoying every minute of it – starting in Ottawa’s Arlington Woods, then Airdrie, Alberta and now here in Ottawa’s Riverside South.

I’m a Saskatchewan girl (Go Riders Go!!!) and proud of it, born into a musical family, growing up singing in the church, at various functions and with my family as I played the piano and my dad played the guitar beside me. There has always been something that has drawn me to it, leading me to pursue music after graduation and seeing me receive 2 music degrees. I started teaching private voice and piano lessons when I was still in high school and then during college I took a bit of a break from teaching. But soon after graduation I went back and started teaching again. Once I discovered this program and saw how much the kids and parents (and myself) enjoyed it I knew that this is what I had to do.

I’ve done double duty in this program – being both parent and teacher, which allows me to teach this program from a unique perspective.  My children Emma, Kaleb and Navia have all graduated from Moonbeams 3 and have continued private piano lessons passing with Honors & First Class Honors.  It is really neat to be able to see my own children’s eyes light up as they understand a new concept, can master a new technique or have perfected a new song.

My musical background includes 9 years as a Private Piano/Voice Instructor previous to teaching MYC, Grade 9 RCM in Piano, 3 years Children’s Musical Director, MYC Certified, BA in Music, BA in Worship Ministry, as well as Assistant Director of my College Choir and some orchestral conducting.  And, of course, teaching Music for Young Children since 2002!  I can’t believe it’s going on 22 years with MYC!

EMMA BAILEY – MYC L3, RCM PIANO L8, RCM THEORY ADVANCED RUDIMENTS

Spratt Family

Emma has been teaching Music for Young Children since 2015. She has completed all 3 Levels of MYC Teacher’s Training and is finishing her Grade 9 RCM Piano. Emma has also spent many years being a ‘parent’ during MYC classes when parents have been sick and unable to attend with their child. She has a very unique perspective as she is a Music for Young Children graduate, has ‘lived’ MYC with her mom being a teacher (yep, she’s my daughter), and has been a substitute ‘parent’ in class. Emma has officially retired from teaching MYC, but you may see her around as a substitute teacher.
