This year has been a great year, with an unusual ending.  We started back in September with everyone meeting in our studio, as we always have.  There were new students and returning students, all growing and becoming better musicians.  We had our Christmas Break and after it we began working on our compositions, which every student in our studio completed.  We even had 3 students place (Ben in MB1 was 4th in Eastern Canada, Alexis in MB1 received an Honorable Mention and Aria in SB3 received an Honorable Mention.). We then went for our March Break and that’s when things changed.  The province of Ontario declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19, and suddenly we were asked to remain in our homes and not go out unless it was absolutely necessary.  All our schools closed and our music studio needed to close as well.

Our MYC families, though, never missed a beat!  The week following March Break every student came back to class, but not in person, rather online through Zoom.  There were a few hiccups along the way, but the last 8 weeks have all been our regular MYC classes, meeting as a group, but online.  We even had a successful online recital, with every child participating!  It was such a proud moment for us as teachers, and I’m sure all the parents too.

As we look to the future we don’t know for sure what it will bring, but we do know that Miss Emma and I are committed to bringing the joy of music into your child’s life, whether that be through in studio classes, or online Zoom classes.  We will be looking to the Province of Ontario and the surrounding schools as to what our classes will look like in the Fall.  When we return to the studio, classes may look a little different, with personal pencil cases, more hand washing, hand sanitizing and other ways to keep us safe and healthy.  We are committed to keep all our families as safe as possible and are thankful for everyone supporting us in this.
